AMAHÌ CAMILLA ELENA SARACENI
Director, playwright, choreographer and teacher
Amahì Camilla Elena Saraceni (aka Amahi Desclozeaux) was born in Cordoba, Argentina. With a master’s degree in philosophy at the age of 20 she published a book “De aqui a ayer” (from here to yesterday), she began by teaching philosophy at the University of El Salvador, while at the same time opening a fashion house in Buenos Aires. In the early 80s, she moved to Paris where she worked for prestigious fashion names such as the Chanel and Dior houses, travelling around the world organizing their fashion shows. Many collaboration for the design of costumes and sets for movies and advertising with among others, Helmut Newton, Bruce Brown, Lester Bookbinder, Jean Jacques Beneix, Eduard Molinaro…. It is by attending the rehearsals of Jean Genet’s “Paravents” directed by Patrice Chéreau at the “Théâtre des Amandiers” in Nanterre that she decides to devote herself entirely to theatre and dance (which she practices since she was 8 years old).
In 1985, she founded with Juliette Binoche and Michel Feller: Théâtre de Léthé à Paris/Collectif 2 plus. For her productions she worked with composers such as Gerardo Jerez Cam, Steve Arguelles, Laurent Petitgand, Alvise Sinivia … and with authors such as Chantal Akerman, Lydie Salvayre, Eduardo Manet, John and Mayotte Bollakc, Olivia Rosenthal.
Sylvie Cavé, author-interpreter, defines her artistic approach as follows: At the crossroads of reflection and experience, with a lot of intuition, the elusive charm of Amahì Camilla Saraceni operates. Fascinated by the turbulence of human, the intimate coherence of her work is expressed in this ability to recycle everything from the past and to probe the Unconscious. She is a exploring machine, she is an affable and sometimes ironic priestess who listens to the piping and vibrations of the intimate. In 2018 Amahì Camilla Saraceni has created a new festival: ARTINVITA – Festival Internazionale degli Abruzzi which will take place in the region of Orsogna, Italy every year from April 15 to May 15 bringing together artists from all over Europe.
Since 1985 she has been conducting intensive training courses open to actors, dancers, musicians and circus artists. The goal is to give to the interpreters the tools that will allow them to mix, the different forms approached: dance, singing, improvisation, work on the texts, but also to relate the acquired with the scenic space (scenography, costumes, video, lights and music).
